How To Commission An Oil Painting

I'll ask any questions I have, or may sometimes request more reference pictures. If needed, I will provide a preliminary sketch ahead of the painting.

Once we've agreed on the brief, I will send you a quote.

The timeline varies on size, amount of detail etc.

You will receive a picture of the painting once complete. Please ask if you want updates during the process, but once the painting is done, you may be able to make a few minor and reasonable alterations.

My background is in realistic portraiture, so I don't just create a painting that looks vaguely like the photograph, I create exact copies. I spend time studying the details that make someone or something recognisable — expression, light, texture, skin, fur and the little things that make the subject feel like them. Can I Get An Oil Painting Of Someone Who Has Passed?
Yes of course! I'm sorry to hear your loved one or pet is gone, that is incredibly sad and my heart goes out to you. Painting someone who has passed is possible. It's best to send me a selection of the best quality pictures you have so I can try and capture a likeness. I would be honoured to paint this for you.
Do You Do Any More Affordable Paintings?
Yes, oil painting is the most premium services as the materials are more expensive, and it takes a much longer time to paint. I can offer pencil, pastel, or watercolour illustrations. Let me know your budget and I can work around that.
What's The Best Pictures For You To Paint?
Try not to send me pictures that would look artsy or great on instagram. Think front on, good lighting, classical poses you would see. I need to see as much detail as possible.
FAQ's
How Long Does An Oil Painting Typically Take To Paint?
I would say a minimum of 6 weeks. It depends what I have on at that time. I usually try to complete them sooner. If you have multiple figures, it could take longer. Email way in advance if you have a deadline.
What Canvas Sizes Can You Offer?
I can make a suggestion based on your brief. The less figures there are, the smaller it would be but it would start around A3 size for a singe head.
How Much Does It Cost?
It all depends on the brief. If it's a single head around A3, it could be as little as £850, which sounds a lot but you have to consider that it can take up for 40 - 50 hours to paint. I can work smaller, but we'll have to discuss.
What Other Things Do You Paint?
I can paint portraits, figures, landscapes, botanicals. You name it, I can usually paint it!
How Does The Commission Get Delivered?
If you're based in London, I will deliver it by hand, if not I will ensure it is wrapped correctly and shipped straight to your day for a time and date you are avaialble.
