Unexpected Collaborations

Previously, art was viewed as a craft that was akin to a shoemaker's trade. It served as a means to fulfil practical needs, such as creating family portraits or depicting scenes from religious texts. However, in contemporary times, the definition of art has expanded to encompass a broad range of styles, from minimalistic designs to continuing realistic renderings. While the end result of the artistic process is important, the journey towards creation holds greater significance.

My name is China, and I’m an artist as well as the founder of ArtistAnd. Art has always been a passion of mine, serving as a refuge where I can escape the demands of the outside world and find inner peace. I have encountered many individuals who express a desire to draw or paint, yet are reluctant to begin, often citing age or perceived lack of talent as barriers. However, I firmly believe that art is an accessible pursuit for all, regardless of age or ability. At ArtistAnd, our mission is to promote the wellness benefits of art and community to adults, encouraging individuals to pursue artistic endeavours at any stage of life. Yet, we face the challenge of how to convey the value of art in a way that is equal to other well-known wellness practices. To address this challenge, we have collaborated with other wellness activities, such as yoga and meditation, to position art as an activity that promotes mental and physical health.

In my experience, creating art is the same as practicing meditation, allowing me to focus my attention and cultivate a sense of calm. If I’ve found this to be true, so surely others can as well? Knowing the benefits of my own practise and the importance of other mindful forms to others, our art retreats were formed. Our weekend retreats combine art with classical wellness activities, such as our portrait and meditation, and watercolour and wellness events. By forging connections between unexpected elements, we aim to revolutionize the way individuals perceive art and its ability to complement other wellness practices.

Our retreats at ArtistAnd provide a unique opportunity for individuals to connect with both art and meditation in a meaningful and transformative way. By combining these two practices, we aim to offer a holistic wellness experience that nurtures both the mind and body. Art and meditation share many commonalities. Both require focus, patience, and a willingness to let go of distractions and embrace the present moment. By combining these practices, individuals can experience a deeper sense of relaxation and mental clarity, while also honing their creative skills.

During our retreats, we provide a supportive and nurturing environment where participants can explore their creative impulses and deepen their understanding of meditation. Our expert instructors guide individuals through each practice, offering personalized attention and support along the way.

Many of our participants have reported feeling more centered, focused, and calm after attending our retreats. They have also expressed a greater sense of self-confidence and creative inspiration, having gained new skills and insights into their own artistic abilities and mental wellbeing.
