Painting The Masters Of Accountancy

The Master Of Accountancy is originally an oil painting by Luca Pacioli. The painting depicts the creator off book keeping when numbers transitioned from I II IV ect to what we know today as 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. This task, was to paint the masters of accountancy's and introduce the software by the legendary accounting company - Xero.

Master Of Acccountancy - The original

The software back in the 1500's was much simpler than today, so I had to replace things like books and chalk boards for computers and Ipads. You can see the original oil painting on the right, and my rendition that that was created from scratch without guides or grids. It was an incredible job to try and ad light from the computers in a scene which would have had no electricity ever. This painting highlighted the brilliance of the software for the company - Xero.

I loved the brief and concept created by Xero. They used history and the past and somehow found a very niche oil painting to get their branding interpreted in a unique way. This painting makes you stop look and see what's going on. It takes you a second to realise that there is the old and the new mixed in, because originally, you just look at the skill of the artists.

Xero got in touch with us to create a painting that bridged a narrative between the technological eras.

Recreating this masterpiece in the same medium; oils while giving it an upgrade to the integrating imagery of modern-day conveniences. It was featured at one of the new software launches within the business.

The original painting and its content were significant and timely to its creation, so together we made the painting more relevant to the present day.
