The Grand Explorer
The Grand Explorers was a collaboration between Amazon Prime's epic adventure series - The Grande Tour and myself who painted the 3 TV explorers combined with 3 true explorers of the 16th century. James May, Jeremy Clarkson& Richard Hammond joined this master painting with Thomas Cavendish, Sir Francis Drake & Sir John Hawkins to be set in stone with a traditional oil painting.

I really enjoyed painting this. Despite the crunch time, I loved studying the original painting. The colours, the warm brown tones and the way the figures are posed. It's a classical sign of the times with the grandeur importance of status and power in the 16th century.
Oil Painting - A Closer Look
Amazon launched the 3rd series of the popular show, The Grand Tour. As a part of the launch, we designed a painting that incorporated important explorers and adventure seekers through traditional painting processes and poses.
The painting was created in 5 weeks to meet the tight deadline, and afterward framed and displayed.
The original painting, which is on display at the National Maritime Museum in London, features three explorers:
Thomas Cavendish (1560-92), Sir Francis Drake (1540?-96) and Sir John Hawkins (1532-95)
Our mission was to present our own modern-day explorers, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.
